MRS. MARIE ADELE BEST
On Friday, August 1, 2014, Mom left us with the same peace, grace and gratitude with which she lived her life. Mom was born Marie Adele Lapointe on May 23rd 1926 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. She was the second of 12 children born to Omer and Emma Lapointe. She moved north to the MacDowall area with her family as a young child. Here, in her teenage years she met and was courted by our dad, W.K. (Bill) Best Jr. They were married in 1944 and raised 6 children on the family farm in the Sunbeam Valley district near MacDowall. Mom and Dad always viewed their marriage as a true partnership. They supported each other equally in their various interests and efforts. Mom remained on the Best family farm after Dad's passing in 1990. In 1995 she moved into MacDowall where she lived until 2006 when she moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Our mother, Marie, was a very caring individual whose commitment to family and faith never wavered. Every member of her immediate and extended family felt her genuine love and generosity. Those who knew mom knew of her intense love of gardening and her incredible talent to craft beautiful quilts from scraps of fabrics. These quilts are now treasured by hundreds of people who were lucky enough to receive them as gifts. Community was important to Mom as she was actively involved in our education and athletics, several service programs and local charities. She gave of her time and talents cheerfully and responsibly and it reflected in her work with the MacDowall St. Stephens Anglican Church, the Royal Canadian Legion and varying senior’s organizations. She is predeceased by her husband William, her daughter Sharon LaClaire, 6 brothers as well as a brother and a sister-in-law. Left to cherish her memory are her 5 children, Sandra (Don) Peters, Edie (Tom) Conly, William Best Jr., Gail (Pat) Fitzpatrick, Jim (Jane) Best, 18 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Also missing her are five Lapointe siblings Charles, Adelaide, Winifred, Victor and Leonard, brothers-in-law Clifford and Arnold Best and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many new friends and staff at the Villa Royale Retirement Home who helped make her last eight years enjoyable. We would also like to thank the Palliative Home Care Team that assisted our family in caring for our mom at home until her passing. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, August 9, 2014 at River Park Memorial Chapel in Prince Albert. Reverend Kenneth Davis will officiate. Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Stephens Anglican Church in Macdowall, The Okema Christian Kids Summer Camp or a charity of your choice. We invite all who are able to attend to please bring any quilted treasure received from Mom to add to our display at this celebration of her life. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of Carla Jesso, Funeral Director
