Margaret Louise Boyd

Margaret Louise Boyd, 84 years of age, passed away at her home in Kinistino, Saskatchewan after a courageous battle with cancer. Margaret was born January 4th, 1930 in Crescent Hill, Saskatchewan to Jim and Margaret “Daisy” Davidson.
Margaret began her nursing career in 1946 at Saskatoon City Hospital and the University of Saskatchewan graduating 1951 with her RN and BSc. She was married to William (“Bill”) Boyd January 12, 1954 in Prince Albert, SK. Bill was a member of the RCMP, and they lived in Lac La Ronge where Margaret worked for Indian Health Services. Following that they moved to Prince George, Duncan, and Vernon, B.C. In 1965 they moved to Ottawa, ON and in 1969 Edmonton, AB. She thoroughly enjoyed teaching her nursing students while in Prince Albert, Ottawa and Edmonton. While in Edmonton she played a large part in the development of the W.W. Cross Cancer Institute from it's beginning in 1968 until 1972. In 1982 Marg and Bill retired to Darwell, AB where they enjoyed a quiet life. Margaret continued to work as a Health Care consultant. Margaret loved her garden, her dolls and her pets. She spent many hours knitting, sewing, repairing and dressing dolls. She had a love of writing letters and reading. During her last year she was able to complete an art course and was in the midst of completing a creative writing course. Margaret is survived by her son Bill of Edmonton, AB and daughter Barbara (Russell) Porter of Kinistino, SK; grandchildren Meaghan (Jeremy Dyck) Porter of Black Diamond, AB; Rusty (Amy Danku) of Kinistino, SK and great-grandchildren Brayden and Macy Porter; brothers Walter Davidson, of Prince Albert and William [Shirley] Davidson, of Shellbrook, SK; sister Janet (Len) Breuault, Penticton, BC as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and great-grand nephews and great-grand nieces. She was predeceased by her husband Bill in 1992; a great niece Deanna Thomas; her parents Margaret and Jim Davidson; brother George Davidson, sister Mary Thomas, brothers-in- law John Thomas and Robert Salmond; sisters-in-law Emily Davidson and Kathleen Davidson.
Service of remembrance will be held at the Kinistino Legion Hall on Thursday, September 4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with The Rev. Chris Dow officiating. Interment will follow at Kinistino Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, in memory of Margaret, may be directed to a charity of choice.
