Passed on: August 22nd, 2014
Ella Falloon passed away on August 22, 2014. Ella was the youngest of five children born to Knute and Lidia Roste in Carlyle, SK on August 29th, 1923. She married George Falloon on April 19th, 1941. By December, when they were expecting their 1st child, George was sent overseas, where he served almost 3 years with the R.C.A.F, during WWII. Upon returning they began grain and dairy farming at Forrest, MB and had five more children. They moved their family to Smeaton in 1959 to become partners in Smeaton Service. In the following years they became partners in the Smeaton and Snowden Hotels. George and Ella supported each other in every venture, all the while maintaining their commitment to raising their family. Ella continued that commitment after George's passing in 1991. After North Haven was opened in 2000, she spent a good part of her time volunteering and visiting there until she decided to become a resident herself. She loved her time spent there as well as her final four years in the loving care of the Pineview Lodge staff in Nipawin.
Who Mom was to us
Mom filled our home with love, laughter, music, and our bellies with home cooking. She worked hard but always had time for games and singing. We'd gather round Mom at the piano and Dad with the fiddle or guitar. She had a very good sense of humour, often the start or the end of a practical joke. We look back and marvel… how did she do it? Few conveniences, scrub board for doing laundry, everything needing to be ironed – even 5 little girl's hair ribbons. Knees of pants were patched (Dave's) and socks too. Gardening, canning – her recipes are still our favourite, especially her pies, mmmm! Throughout all of that, Mom still helped Dad with farming and business, yet still made time for friends and community. There was never a person turned away from the door. What a happy, noisy, time it was when we all got together!
As Mom would say, we now say to her, I love you too!
Ella was predeceased by her husband of 50 years, George, in 1991, and a Great Grandson, Marty, in 2004. Her parents Knute and Lidia Roste, a brother Leroy, and 3 sisters, Rosella, Irene, and Elsie. also, brother's and sisters-in-law.
Ella will be lovingly remembered by her 6 children – Margo (Walter) Marshall of Smeaton, Marlene (Morris) Hounsell of Saskatoon, Sharon (Larry) Honke of Cold Lake, AB, Linda Jordan of Smeaton, Doreen (Rick) Willness of Smeaton, and David (Joan) Falloon of Campbell River, BC.
And her 18 Grandchildren, 52 Great Grandchildren as well as spouses, and fifth generation of 14 Great Great Grandchildren. Her Brothers-in-Law Gib (Arlene) Falloon, Delmar Lamb, Vern Triol. Sisters-in-Law Ruth Friesen and Marilyn Rodgers. As well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
