Dwayne Clarence Tolofson was born on July 18, 1947 at Melfort, SK to Helmer & Ruth (Bradford) Tolofson of Brockington, SK. He attended Pine Bluff School until the age of 17 when he started working for the summer for a beekeeper in Melfort-Tom Hannah. He did other jobs too, during his early years, building elevators for the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, oil drilling in AB and diamond drilling, but he always came back to beekeeping and that became his lifelong profession.
Dwayne married Cheryl Oberg on January 9th, 1971 at the Carrot River Valley Lutheran Church at Fairy Glen, SK (Bagley District). After their marriage they resided in Melfort where their children Troy & Tanya were born. In 1980 Dwayne bought an acreage from his father-in-law Eskil Oberg at Brockington, SK and began his own beekeeping operation. In later years, he was joined in the business by his son Troy.
Dwayne’s life centered around his family and friends and everyone was always welcome at his home. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He would do anything for his family. Dwayne was truly a “family man”. Special family occasions were always celebrated by being together.
Dwayne always had a cheerful, friendly disposition and was an easy-going person. He was never angry or had a bad word to say about anyone. He had an infectious smile and a “hello” for everyone and he liked and got along with everyone. He was a wonderful role model in how to treat other people.
Dwayne’s lifelong profession of beekeeping became his passion. He was a hard worker and a great beekeeper. He loved his bees!
Dwayne was also an avid sportsman. He hunted with his dad Helmer as he grew up and that carried over to hunting with his son Troy. He also loved fishing, both in the summer and in the winter, with family and friends. These hunting and fishing trips made for many wonderful stories to be told over a good cup of coffee, that was always on for anyone stopping over.
Dwayne passed away on his farm at Brockington, SK on October 28, 2014, doing what he loved, working with his bees.
Dwayne is survived by his wife Cheryl, son Troy (Lianne) and their children Taylor (Christina), Tarrence & Brooke, daughter Tanya (Dan Lloyd) and their daughter Saige, brothers Ronald (Sharon), Eldon (Terri) and Garry, brothers-in-law Lester Gingell, Reg (Joan) Oberg, Dwayne (Mickey) Oberg, Murray (Audrey) Oberg, sisters-in-law Lori Tolofson & Shelly Oberg (Rick Sloan), as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Helmer and Ruth, his brothers Roger and Lyle, his sisters Betty and Beverley, and his in-laws Eskil and Norma Oberg.
A more loving husband, father, grandfather, relative and friend could not have been wished for. He was a kind-hearted and gentle man. He has left only good memories behind and he will be so sadly missed by all those who knew and loved him for the special person that he was. He will be forever loved and remembered.
