It is with regret and great sadness that the family of Joseph Lucas announces his passing on December 13, 2014 at the age of 101 years. Joseph was born to Frank and Petronella Lucas on October 20, 1913. He grew up in the Vonda District and lived there until 1933 when he met and married Helen Burtney, his wife of 70 years until her passing in 2003. Helen and Joe raised five children. In 1943 they moved to the town of Landis where Joe worked for the Co-op delivering fuel to farmers. In the spring of 1947, they decided to move to Prince Albert and in 1953 they built their home on 22nd Street West where they were to reside for many years. Throughout his years in Prince Albert, Joe worked as a trucker and eventually started an 18 year career as a mechanic for the Prince Albert City Bus Lines. His last job before retiring in 1984 was trucking logs to the Prince Albert Pulp Mill. Joseph is survived by his daughter Lillian (Alex) Rebryna and his four sons Albert (Dorothy), Lloyd (Linda), Ben (Maureen) and Bruce (Bonnie). Joe also leaves behind 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 17 great great grandchildren. Joseph was predeceased by his wife Helen; his parents; his sister Mary and his brother Isaac. The family wishes to thank Bud and Dorothy Bachelder for their loving and compassionate care for our dad for 6 and a half years. They would also like to thank the staff at River Heights Manor in St. Louis for the care and encouragement dad received in his final months. The family would also like to thank the staff on the fifth floor of the Victoria Hospital for making our dad comfortable during his final days. In lieu of other tributes, the family requests donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion.
