Lloyd Oliver Skiftun

On January 12, 2015 Lloyd Oliver Skiftun, at the age of 88, was called home to join his loving wife Mildred and beloved son Allen. Lloyd passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends. He was born June 14, 1926 in Brockington, SK to Charlie and Linnea Skiftun and was the oldest of 9 children. He met and married the love of his life Mildred Larson on August 10, 1951 in Melfort, SK. They started their young lives together in Brockington, then onto Golden Prairie, Gull Lake and finally settling roots in Prince Albert, SK. It was in Prince Albert where they raised their 5 children; Allen, Debbie, Tammie, Penny and Terrie and many foster children. Lloyd’s long career as a skilled carpenter began alongside his father-in-law Helge Larson and brother Gordon. He enjoyed working in many places such as Poole Construction, Picket Construction, DNR (Dept. of Northern Resources) and finally retiring from Skiftun Construction which he founded with his brother Gordon, later to be joined by the other brothers, Norris, Dale and Ken. Lloyd had a passion for horses, rodeos, building furniture and games for his kids and grandchildren, wiener roasts at Little Red and many family gatherings that included music, laughter and a good copy of coffee! In his retirement he enjoyed coffee at A & W, socializing with the members at Gateway Covenant Church and playing cards and looking out for his many friends at Chester Court where Lloyd and Mildred resided for 17 years. Left to cherish his memory are his four daughters Debbie Skiftun, Tammie (Richard) Bussiere, Penny Overes and Terrie Sanderson; his daughter-in-law Charlotte and foster daughter Julie Beatty. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Lauren (Ralph) Melchkart and Shirley (Rod) Dueck; two brothers Gordon (Marian) Skiftun and Ken (Elva) Skiftun; sisters-in-law Marlene (Skiftun) Watson, Andrea Skiftun and numerous nieces and nephews. Lloyd was predeceased by his parents Charlie and Linnea; his loving wife Mildred; his son Allen; sisters Norma Oberg and Mildred Donald and brothers Norris and Dale. Lloyd will be remembered by all who knew him for his gentle heart and kind soul. UFF-DA. His memorial service will be announced at a later date. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
