Eric Charles Smith
September 24, 1942 to January 16, 2015
It is with the utmost sadness that Eric’s family announces his sudden passing. Born and raised in Glasgow, Scotland, in a family of meager means, after secondary school, further education was not an option, so he went to work as an apprentice at the tender age of 15 on the rough and tough Glasgow shipyards. After attaining his journeyman’s ticket, he married and soon had a family of three. Wanting a better life for his family, immigration to Canada was next on the agenda. He worked at Weyerhaeuser’s Prince Albert mill for 30 years and retired in comfort. He was often known to say, ‘Life doesn’t get much better than this”. As a blessing, he passed, reclined in his favourite position in the comfort of his giant lazy-boy chair, with his favourite cocktail, a Rusty Nail, by his side. Eric was predeceased by his two loving parents, Frank and Isabella Smith. He is survived by his three natural children; Linda (Ken Guedo), Rick and Anne; his grandsons, Andrew (Carsie Guedo) and Matthew; as well as his three brothers, Ronnie (Tina), Frank (Stella) and Norman (Katsumi) and their families. He is also survived by his three bonus children; Shannon Gordon (Tom Sutherland), Pam Gordon and Teri Molsberry, and their children; Evan, Morgan, Riley, Tommy, Taylor, Sierra, Shelby, Lyndsay, Tony and Kira. He was the greatest gift of kindness, humanity and generosity and we are all of us, the better for having known him and his love. Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Sherry Ouellette. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, the family asks that you redirect your kindness and generosity to a cause dear to Eric’s heart, the SPCA, PO Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
