Doris Hanke

A longtime resident of Beechy, SK passed away at the Lucky Lake Health Centre at the age of 91. She is survived by her sister Phyllis Conzelman (Davis, California), her brother Bruce McKay (Calgary, AB), her children Nancy (Bernie) Hrytzak of Chatham, ON, Glenn(Diana) Hanke of Swift Current, SK, Pat (Barb) Hanke of Beechy, 8 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Lloyd Hanke (2003), her grandson Nicholas Hanke (2006), and her great granddaughter Addison Hanke (2007). Daughter of Gwen and George McKay, Doris was raised and educated in Leask, SK, then attended Normal School in Saskatoon. She taught school for one year near Prince Albert, SK, then went to work at the bank in Beechy. She and Lloyd were married in 1947 and she became a farm wife, living on the home place until they moved to Beechy in 1973. Doris was a member of the Jonesville Homemakers Club for 20 years. She was a longtime secretary of the Beechy Ag Society. Doris became treasurer of the Beechy Library Board when it formed in 1956 and remained in that position until 2006. She served on the Rink Auxiliary and cooked many a roast beef for the Community Hall. She was an active member of the Beechy United Church, serving in the Sunday School and choir. Doris was a staunch supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and her and Lloyd were season ticket holders for 28 years. Doris and Lloyd were known for their hospitality… the door was always open, the coffee was always on, a meal was ready to be shared, a bed was always waiting if needed! A celebration of Doris’ life will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Beechy United Church, Beechy, Sask. with Rev. Michelle Armstrong officiating. Interment will take place in the Beechy Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to: the Wheatland Regional Library, Beechy Branch. Arrangements are in care of the Outlook Funeral Chapel 306-867-8255
