Mervyn Lancaster

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mervyn Richard Lancaster. Mervyn was born February 24, 1927 at Melfort, SK and passed away on March 09, 2015 at Saskatoon, SK. He grew up in Kinistino and Melfort, SK. Achieving his education and taking part in hockey, bowling, Boy Scouts and Air Cadets. Mervyn enjoyed badminton, curling and golf. His career started in retail and Men’s Wear. Mervyn met and courted Winona Ann CLUNIE. They married on July 16, 1950, and for 64 years shared love, their lives and raised their family. Mervyn worked for Federated Co-operatives and set up many Co-op locations in SK. In 1968, the family moved when Mervyn accepted a managerial position with the Grande Prairie Co-op. You would find him in charge of men’s wear, ladies wear, children’s wear, shoes, and notions. He enjoyed his career of 35 years, at which time he retired. Mervyn was a member of the Kinsmen Club in Prince Albert, SK, Saskatoon, SK and Grande Prairie, AB. He often spoke of what he learned over his lifetime and told his kids, grandkids and great grandkids stories, jokes and sayings, hoping they too, would learn from him. He loved summers, the outdoors and family time at the Waskesiu Lake cabin. Mervin was predeceased by his wife, Winona (Clunie); his sons Gregory and Mark and his parents George Lancaster and Annie Lancaster (Furminger). Mervyn is survived by his daughter Laurie Lancaster-Yahnke (Vern Yahnke); his brother Donald Lancaster (Joyce); his grandchildren Nicole Lancaster (Ryan Cook), Joshua Lancaster (Christine), Andrea Lancaster, Megan Laflamme (Josh), Matthew Lancaster-Yahnke; his great grandchildren Christian Wieltschnigg, Brynn, Emily,and Darby Lancaster and Alex Cook. Mervyn will be lovingly remembered by all. Memorial Service for Winona and Mervyn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2015 at the Calvary United Church, 114 – 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan 279 – 3rd Avenue N, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8.
