Gladys Aarrestad

Gladys Marie Aarrestad (nee Amundson) was born in Southey, SK April 28, 1930. She lived in the Park Valley district most of her life and loved farm living. She attended the Lake Four School for 8 years then was needed to help out at home. She married Aadne Aarrestad in 1953 and raised five children while helping with the dairy, beef cattle and chickens. She was accomplished at gardening, baking, cooking, canning, sewing, knitting and crocheting. She had a strong faith in God and her life was an example of her faith. Her cheerful personality, kindness and smile touched many lives. In addition to serving others in her home, church and community, she volunteered at Lakewood Lodge for several years.
Gladys and Aadne moved into Debden Heritage Manor in November 2013. In February 2015, Gladys became a resident of Whispering Pine Place in Canwood where she passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at the age of 85.
Gladys will be missed by her husband of 62 years, Aadne, five children: Elaine (David) Cotcher, Sonja (David) Gabruch, Valerie (Arthur) Dornn, Phillip (Danita) Aarrestad, Kelvin (Crystal) Aarrestad, twelve grandchildren: Janice Cotcher, Maryanne (Chris) Reed, Michael Cotcher, Angela (Errol) Vaadeland, Ian Gabruch, Pamela Gabruch, Jared Dornn, Nathan Dornn, Jaclyn Aarrestad, Cole Aarrestad, Keenan Aarrestad, Chanel Aarrestad and three great-grandchildren: Elizabeth Reed, Gauge & Alix Vaadeland, siblings, Irvin Amundson, Harvey (Ruth) Amundson, Esther (Alwin) Millar, Harold (Elinor) Amundson and sister-in-law, Tena Amundson.
She was predeceased by her parents, Omund, Inga (Dynna) & stepmother Esther (Martin), siblings, Melvin, Lloyd, Raymond, sister-in-law Elaine, granddaughter-in-law Nicole Shoulak. The Celebration of Life for Gladys took place on Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Canwood Elks Hall with Irvin Amundson and Harvey Amundson officiating. The family shared memories of Gladys, and special music was shared by Gladys’ daughters, grandchildren and Amundson siblings. Interment was in the Lake Four Cemetery.
