Mom was born on February 5, 1923 in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. She was raised in Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England and remained there until she joined the R.A.F. in 1941. Hazel and Roy met while on an overseas service at an R.A.F. hospital base in Belgium. Roy was stationed at the same base. They were married on March 21, 1946 in Huddersfield, England. Hazel’s first trip to Canada was in November of 1946 with many other war brides. Hazel’s first house was in Fort Qu’Appelle in where she met her new family. It was here that she waited in a strange place for Roy to come home from Europe so they could start their new life together. When Roy returned, they moved to Regina where they lived until July 1954. It wasn’t long before they ventured north to Prince Albert, becoming permanent residents to raise their family. Mom was a member of the Local & National War Brides Association and enjoyed many years of social events and corresponded with other war brides frequently some of them becoming her closest lifelong friends. She loved family gatherings at any time of the year. She was a wonderful seamstress and cook. Hazel also loved to knit. Hazel loved animals, she liked to watch TV shows about rescue animals. Hazel loved flowers and in the summer she had beautiful hanging baskets on her balcony. In later years, she loved her computer, which opened new opportunities to stay in contact with her friends, family and especially her nephews over in England. Hazel returned to England numerous times with the last trip back in the fall of 2007. England remained forever in her heart. We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful nurses and doctors in the Emergency, I.C.U. and Level 6 for their excellent care and compassion during Mom’s final days.
