Frederick Joseph Ziegler passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2015 in Big River at the age of 88 surrounded by his loving family. Fred was born on May 5, 1927 to parents, Edward and Agnes Ziegler. He was schooled in the Big River area until the age of 14,  when he entered the work force driving horse and sleigh, hauling fish to and from Dore Lake and Big River. In 1951 – 1954 he joined the army and was stationed in Korea. In 1958 he married Doris Lacendre, they had 6 children together. Fred worked as a mechanic, welder, and as a farm hand. He was also employed at the mill when it was in Big River by the lake, and in Bodmin.  Through the years he resided in Big River and area, also spending years in Shellbrook. He enjoyed spending his spare time and off years, snowmobiling, fishing, hunting, trapping, golfing and watching sports on t.v.  Fred will be missed by all who knew him and shared in his life.  Frederick is lovingly survived by his sister, Thelma (Bill) Hall of Saskatoon; his step-siblings, Anne Helgason of Saskatoon; Linda (Brad) Buhay of Edmonton; Leo Ziegler of Saskatoon; Bill (Verna) Ziegler of Saskatoon; Jim (Julie) Ziegler of Vanscoy; Gerry Ziegler of Edmonton; Yvonne (Art) Saretsky of British Columbia. His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, Carl Ziegler of Saskatoon and his children, Perry and his daughter, Kaydis; Shana; Chantel and her daughter Hailey; Carol (George) Hildebrand of Big River and their children, Mandy (Doug) and children, Harley (Craig) and daughter Laila; Jazmyn; Josie (Richard) and children, Erica and Zac; Shaun (Stacey) and children, Quentin, Vanessa, and Trytin; Janet  (Barry) Simpson of Kenaston and their child Kelsea; Leesa (Jason) Layman of Prince Albert and their children, Jennifer (Justin) and Baby Vansil; Shaylene; Dawn (Jim) Elliot of Saskatoon and their children Ashley and her son Hunter; and Kyla. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Agnes (nee: Landry) Ziegler; his infant son, Anthony Ziegler; his siblings, Jean Whelen, Carl “Buddy” Ziegler, Robert “Snooky” Ziegler; his step sister, Eileen Ziegler; and step brothers, Dennis Ziegler, and Harry Ziegler; his brother in-laws, Mick Whelen and Bob Helgason; and his grandchildren, Charla Ziegler and Kevin Ziegler.

The Funeral Service for Fred was held on Saturday, July 25, 2015 from the Big River Legion Hall with Delores Beaulac officiating. The interment followed in the Big River Cemetery. In lieu of tributes, memorial donations may be made in memory of Fred to either the Lakewood Lodge Auxiliary (Box 846 Big River, SK S0J 0E0) or to the Big River Legion.
