Evelyn Jessie Gwendolyn MacDonald (Aitken) passed away in her sleep on Friday, July 24, 2015 at Pineview Terrace Lodge in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 101. She was born on September 9, 1913 in Lampman, SK to Fanny (Armstrong) and Andrew Aitken. Evelyn was the middle child with an older brother George and a younger sister Frances. Her first marriage was to Daniel Thompson at the United Church in Saskatoon on June 5, 1937. Her last marriage was to Roy Alexander MacDonald on April 9, 1949. Evelyn attended numerous schools from moving all over southern SK in Macoun, Moose Jaw, Weyburn and Saskatoon where she attended high school. She excelled in sports, loving basketball and baseball. She later started her own team in Davis, SK when her boys were young. Her first marriage took her across Sask. and she lived in Regina and Birch Hills. Her last brought her to Prince Albert where she settled having 4 more children. She attended LaBelle Beauty School in Saskatoon and became a hairdresser, which was evident in her everyday life. She always looked amazing from her clothes, hair, make-up and nails. Never would you see mom looking “frumpy”. Mom had a passion for music which showed with her album collection. From Mozart, Beethoven, Chopin to Eddy Arnold, Elvis to her Allan Fisher tapes from her trip to Hawaii with Betty and Dale. She achieved her conservatory in piano and loved to play. She was inspired by the arts. She had many scenic oil paintings she did plus pencil sketches, portraits of movie stars, friends and family. She continued these passions most of her life until her hands gave out with arthritis. In her later years, she bowled and won numerous trophies and also learned to golf. We all played many card games in the evenings, yahtzee to bitch and complain, which she did very well. In her younger years a trip down east to see family was a big highlight for her and other siblings. She has seen many changes in her 101 years of life. From horse and buggy to motorcars, her last vehicle being a Toyota Corolla, but we won’t get into her driving. Evelyn is survived by her family of 6 children: Wayne, Ron, Gail, Betty, George and Sheree; Wayne Thompson has 2 children: Tracey (Susan) and Candace (Dwayne) Naigle & (4 great grandchildren).
