Agnes Clarke

Mrs. Agnes Boyd Clarke, late of Cold Lake, Alberta, passed away peacefully on July 27, 2015 at the Cold Lake Health Centre, at the age of 87 years. Agnes was born in Glasgow, Scotland, on November 7, 1927, the sixth of seven children. She spent time with her younger brother Charlie in Cochran, Ireland, during World War II. She came back to Glasgow with an interest in nursing and attended nursing school there. After her mother’s passing, Agnes got the travel bug. She travelled to Canada and the US, finally settling in Moose Jaw with her sister Catherine and worked at a care center there. She moved to Prince Albert in 1962 and met her life partner Alexander Clarke. They were married on April 27, 1963. She and Alex moved to Shellbrook and then made their home Holbein. Mom became a homemaker and a mother while having four children in just over four years. She and Alex loved going to the rink for hockey and figure skating for the next 20 years. Agnes and Alex enjoyed curling as well. After Alex’s retirement they moved to Saskatoon. Alex and Agnes enjoyed travelling during their retirement going to Scotland, Las Vegas and on an Alaskan cruise. They then moved to Prince Albert to be closer to family. Family was the most important thing to Agnes. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. Agnes is survived by her three sons, Tom (Louise) Clarke of Edmonton, Ken (Sharon) Clarke of Cold Lake, and Kevin (Vicki) Clarke of Regina; one daughter, Catherine (Mark) Bartley of Vermilion; 10 grandchildren, Megan, Brittany, Zachariah, Kelsey, Josiah, Kayleigh, Cameron, Hannah, Heather, and Erin; sister-in-law, Angela Cameron of Rotorua, New Zealand; as well as many caring extended family members. Agnes was predeceased by her husband Alex, her parents, John and Catherine Cameron, as well as sisters Mary, Nellie, Margaret, and Catherine, and brothers James (Jimmy) and Charles (Charlie). In lieu of other tributes memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 2rd Ave North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8. A Prayer Service for Agnes will be held on Wednesday, July 29, 2015 – 7:00 pm, MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, 130 9th Street E, Prince Albert, SK.
