George Leybourne

With sadness we announce the passing of George Elliot Leybourne on August 11, 2015 at the age of 91. George was born on March 8, 1924. He was predeceased by his sister Jean Adams, and his wife Jewel. He leaves behind his son Rik, grandchildren Morgan (Dustin), Ryan, Kelly, and their mother Carol, as well as his great granddaughter Norah Rose; his daughter Deb (Rick Peebles), grandchildren, J.R. (Janet) Scott (Trish) and their father Jim. George had many careers some of the most impactful was an Aircraft mechanic with the Air Force, and anyone that knew George would find themselves listening to one of his stories about planes. He was also well known as the “Cookie Man” while working for McCormick’s as a salesman in central and northern Saskatchewan, putting on enough miles to get him to the moon and back. George got to know many people throughout his life, from being a salesman, and doing driving commentary on the radio, ACT and again after retirement as President and active Member with the Legion. George had many hobbies, from writing opinionated letters to the editor of the Daily Herald, building boats, golf, and fishing, motorbikes, loved Crib, and even got a perfect hand at a tournament, to the most recent being bingo, and the Casino. Celebration of life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 15, 2015 at the Christopher Lake Legion Hall. Private Family Interment will be held. Those wishing to make a donation in lieu of other tributes, may do so to The Heart and Stroke Foundation or The Prince Albert SPCA. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
