With unbearable sadness the family of Michael Douglas Cooke of Calgary announce his passing on Saturday, October 24, 2015 at the age of 35 years.
Mike will be deeply missed by all who knew him but especially his loving wife Sarah; his mother Gaylene; his father Warren; his brother Scott; his beloved dog Indy; and a large extended family and many friends. He also held a special place in the hearts of Sarah’s family.
Always an active child and into adulthood, Mike was an avid hockey player, snowboarder, golfer, swimmer, hiker and runner. He completed his fourth half marathon just this past June.
Mike received his diploma in Industrial Instrumentation Technology at Sait in 2005 and received the Jason Lang Scholarship for exceptional academic achievement in his time there.
He pursued his career working at Tundra Process Solutions for ten years and more recently at Status Engineering.
Mike was also an accomplished cook, artist, traveler and handyman. He was a fearless chef, always willing to try a new recipe, the more challenging the better. Family and friends were always well fed.
In high school, Mike traveled to Italy and Greece. At twenty, he lived in Australia for a year and later traveled to Germany. He and Sarah traveled to the Dominican Republic and throughout the US and Canada together. Last year, they spent their anniversary touring Ireland.
Mike was a true friend, always willing to lend a helping hand. He helped build many a garage, deck or fence. If he didn’t know how to do something, he would watch a video and become a pro. He leaves a legacy of many completed projects. He was a kind and generous soul who was liked instantly by those who met him and loved by those who knew him well. In 2002, Mike gave his heart to Sarah and together they had thirteen years of love, mutual respect and adventure.
May the road rise to meet you
May the wind be always at your back
May the sun shine warm upon your face
And the rains fall soft upon your fields
Until we meet again
