It is with heavy hearts and precious memories Rudolf’s family announces his passing on Sept. 30, 2015 at the age of 86. Born at home, December 8th, 1928 to Ted and Elsie Hoehne, the second of three children. At the age of six, his family moved to the meadow grove district and started the homestead. There is an old barn still standing that Rudolf helped build. As entertainment was limited back in the day, Rudolf with his family and friends made their own fun by doing things such as; holding a cow’s tail and skiing behind it, taming a coyote as a family pet, with pictures for proof!
Upon his completion of grade 8 Rudolf went to work, sun up until sun down for a dollar a day. In 1948 they moved to another farm with a bigger house, where his son Harold and Barb presently live. In 1954 his parents and older brother Bill moved to Whitewood Sask, leaving Rudolf and his sister, Frieda to run the farm. During that time Rudolf and Frieda found some free time to do some courting, soon they had a double wedding on April 27, 1957 at the Brightholme Church. Rudolf and Shirley had their first son, Clarence and five years later their second, Harold. Rudolf always made time for church and family fun on Sundays, spending time fishing, and picnicking, the rest of the time was work, work, work. Rudolf would call and be called upon to help out friends and neighbors, “that was the way it was back then.” He always made time to help out people in need. Rudolf was full of fun and jokes, had many good times, lots of laughs, and his sense of humour will be missed greatly. In 1989 Shirley lost her battle to cancer. In 1991, he remarried Katie Verbonac and they instantly became busy keeping up with all the blended family functions and grandchildren’s events they attended. Rudolf enjoyed heading out to the farm to help his boys out whether it was building fence, swathing, picking up bales or feeding soup to his grandchildren. Rudolf and Katie had 24 years of marriage and greatly enjoyed their blended families.
Two years ago Rudolf suffered a stroke which slowed him down a little, but he was still able to enjoy his family and friends. Recently his health slowly deteriorated until his passing. We will miss you Dad,….”You lived until you died” just like you said you would.
