Tharald Johannes Wick passed away at the Birch View Nursing Home, Birch Hills, SK on November 6, 2015 at the age of 85 years. Tharald was born to Ole and Selma Wick on December 1, 1929 on the farm at Northern Light, SK. He attended school in Northern Light and helped farm until taking up an interest in operating a patrol. He worked for the Department of Highways and later for the R.M. of Invergordon until retirement. Tharald received recognition and a plaque of appreciation for 30 years of employment with the R.M. of Invergordon. Tharald retired and continued living in Crystal Springs for many years. With failing health he was admitted to the Wakaw Union Hospital and later transferred to the Birch View Nursing Home in Birch Hills on December 19, 2007. The staff at the Birch View Nursing Home provided care, love and encouragement, as Tharald recovered fully, regaining his health and independence. Tharald found a new home and continued living there until his passing. He could be seen around town cruising in his motorized scooter. He often ran little errands to the Coop and would pick up items needed by the kitchen staff. He would bring treats back from the Coop to share with the staff. Tharald had his favorites to be sure and the love he showed was returned with big hugs and smiles. He would share his chocolate bars, cookies and ice cream treats to the kitchen staff as a thank you for the care he received. Tharald, took it upon himself to sell tickets all over town to raise money for the Nursing Home. He did a fantastic job and was proud he could play such a big part in helping with the fundraisers. Tharald always joked, about being the only one who worked in the home for free. He could be seen helping the kitchen staff, pour juice, water or set and clear tables. He knew too, who needed feeding aprons and would make sure they were placed at the tables where the residents needed them. He often rode his motorized scooter around town, enjoying the sunshine, purchasing lottery tickets or shopping for items at the Pharmacy. He spent many hours watching his favorite TV shows. He looked forward to weekly outings and drives in the country with his best friend, Gordon. Tharald embraced life, living at Birch View. He became part of a family there and will be sadly missed by the staff and residents. Tharald is survived by his best friend, Gordon Tomtene, his children: Derek (Sylvia), Darwin (Donna), and Joylene (Gary) Boles; his ten grandchildren: Michael, Kerri, Brandy, Derek, Aaron, Chad, Nicole, Bryce, Sheryce and Eric: and his 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Clarence (Louise), his sister, Sonja, his sister-in-law, Edna and numerous nieces and nephews. Tharald was predeceased by his parents, Ole and Selma, his grandchild, Laneen, his brother, Odward, his sister Josephine (Charles) Scott and his brother-in-law, Dennis Rode. We would like to thank the staff at the Birch View Nursing Home for the loving care Tharald received throughout his eight year stay as a resident.
