Wanda McCalmon

It is with great sadness that the family of Wanda McCalmon announces her passing on December 10, 2015 at the age of 86. Wanda will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 66 years, Albert, and her children, Sandra (Bernie) Gareau, Ken (Debbie), and Evan (Monique). Wanda will also be fondly remembered by her six grandsons; Chad Gareau, Shawn (Jenna) Gareau, Ryan (Julie) Gareau, Ross (Brooke) McCalmon, Kevin (Amber) McCalmon, and Eric (Laura) McCalmon; and her eleven great grandchildren Ashley, Noah, Connor, Kain, Jackson and Xander Gareau and Regan, Cole, Jae, Cassidy and Eli McCalmon. Born on July 20, 1929 in Fillmore, SK to Mobel and Hazel Fladager, Wanda attended school at Meath Park, mom then went on to the Normal School in Saskatoon and received her Teaching Certificate. Mom began her teaching career at Melba School where she met her husband, Albert McCalmon. They married on April 18, 1949 and moved to the family farm in Paddockwood, SK. Wanda’s elementary teaching career touched various communities, including Melba, Chestly, Birchbark, Beaton and Paddockwood. Mom balanced her life as a working mother and spouse while raising three children on the family farm and teaching full-time. In 1985, mom and dad moved to the Village of Paddockwood where mom enjoyed her retirement spending time with her family and numerous friends. Mom was a talented painter and also excelled in cooking, knitting, and gardening. With a love for travel, both mom and dad discovered various parts of Canada and the USA. Moving to Prince Albert in 2005, mom lived a full life, enjoying visits from her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Mom also enjoyed bowling where she made many friends and her weekly trips to the Casino with her good friend Hazel. Mom will be sadly missed by her husband and her family. We know mom is in a better place and looking down on us. We love and miss you. Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Celebrant Reverend Father Roque Concepcion. Private Family Interment will be held. Those who desire may make memorial donations in memory of Wanda to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 1738 Quebec Avenue, Unit 26, Saskatoon, SK S7K 1V9 or the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
