It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear son and brother, Raymond. He died peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2015 at the Herb Bassett Nursing Home after a brief illness. He was 62 years of age. Raymond was born on April 21, 1953 in Prince Albert and attended the Kinsmen School for twelve years until 1972. He then began his working career at the new Kinsmen workshop on the east flat and later moved to Kin Enterprises Ltd located on the south hill. His various jobs over the years included making “Winter Festival” buttons, making plastic wedding flowers, copper wire salvaging and paper shredding. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at Kin Enterprises and the workshop for the patience and support they gave Raymond over the years. Raymond remained at home under the loving care of his parents Maurice and Yvonne for over fifty years. With his mother’s health starting to fail, well into her eighties, Raymond needed a new home and was taken in by Maryanne Schmidt and family. They welcomed Raymond into their home with open arms and gave him love and exceptional care for which our family will be forever grateful. After eight wonderful years in his second home, Raymond’s health began to fail and he moved into the Herb Bassett Home where he remained for two and a half years until his passing. Raymond is survived by his loving family: his father Maurice of Prince Albert; his brother Robert of Edmonton, AB; his cousins Richard Dansereau (Lydia), Bob (Carol) Dansereau, Marc Dansereau, Pat Dansereau (Elena), Lise McKenna (Don), Reta Sergent, Robert (Helen) Sergent, Marcel (Elaine) Sergent, Paul (Lorraine) Sergent, Maurice (Eunice) Sergent; his family at Kin Enterprises and numerous extended relatives. He was predeceased by: his mother Yvonne; his uncle and aunt Marcel and Marcelle Dansereau; his uncle and aunt Robert and Orpha Sergent; his uncle Raymond Sergent and his cousin Victor Sergent. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 29 from Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1404 – 4 Avenue West by Father Matthew Nguyen. Interment will take place in the Garden of Gethsemane, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. It is the family’s request that those wishing to place donations may do so to the Herb Bassett Home, Victoria Hospital Foundation or Kin Enterprises Inc.
