Following a courageous battle with cancer, Elmer Ignatius Fischer passed peacefully from this life on December 26, 2015. He went home to be with his saviour, Jesus Christ, surrounded by the love of his family at home, which was his desire.
Elmer was born in Muenster, SK on December 13, 1938, the second of six children born to Ignatius and Helen Fischer. He attended the Monastary School and St. Peter’s College. He moved to Weldon in 1960 to work at the Weldon Co-op and soon met Diana Leland. They were married in 1963 and have resided in Weldon ever since. Over the years, Elmer also worked as a partsman in Kinistino at C&D Service Garage and later C&D Sales Garage. He then became the caretaker of the new Weldon School until it closed and then at the Birch Hills School until his retirement in June 1999. Elmer then volunteered at the Weldon Country Villa from 2001 to 2014. He took care of the furnace/boiler room and other maintenance needs as required.
Elmer was a very quiet, dependable, family man who took great pleasure in keeping his home, yard and vehicles meticulously neat, clean and tidy and he could fix just about anything.
Elmer is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Diana ( nee Leland), his son Terry (Debbie) Fischer, his daughter Treena (Mark) Stephen, grandchildren Travis Stephen, Matthew (Fiancée-Kristy Engel) Fischer, Sara (Quang) Pham, his sister Rose Marie (Raymond) Ehalt, his brother Daniel (Janice) Fischer, sisters-in-law Laurel Fisher, Shirley Fischer, Cheryl Jackson, his brothers-in-law Brian (Norma) Leland, Allan (Colleen) Becker. He is predeceased by his parents Ignatius and Helen (Scheiber) Fischer, his brothers Arnold Fisher, Clarence Fischer, Marcellus Fischer, his niece Bonnie Fischer, his mother-in-law Edna (Hanson, Leland) Becker, his step-father-in-law Harry Becker, his father-in-law Alfred Leland, his brother-in-law David Jackson and his sister-in-law Janet (Becker) Harder.
Celebration of his life will take place in the Weldon Auditorium at 2pm on Saturday, January 2, 2016 with Pastor Brian Langendoen officiating. Memorial donations will be made to the Weldon Country Villa or a charity of choice. Friends and family wishing to send messages of condolence are welcome to visit www.beaulacfuneralhome.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Beau “Lac” Funeral Home- Prince Albert, SK- Marianne Turcotte, Funeral Director.
