Elizabeth “Betty” Emelia Stephen was born at Kinistino, SK on August 13, 1931 to her parents Emma and Otto Stephen. Betty, along with her brother Roy who was 2 years older, grew up on the farm north of Kinistino beside the Carrot River. She attended Nordon School. When Betty was 13 years old, the family moved into Kinistino where she attended school.
Betty married John “Jack” Benjamin Beam on October 15, 1948. They lived on the farm near Weldon, SK for 10 years. During this time they spent the winter of 1950 – 1951 in Saskatoon. They were blessed with 3 children during those years Robin in 1950, Cherey in 1952 and Rebecca in 1956. In 1958 Betty and John moved to the original Beam farm 6 miles north of Kinistino. This is where they were blessed with Johnny in 1959.
In August of 1961 Betty, John and the family moved to an acreage near Lumby,B.C. on the edge of the Okanagan Valley. Then in 1967 they moved again to the interior of B.C. known as the Cariboo near Hixon. Here they established a dairy farm which the family operated until May 1978. Then the call for a change brought them back to a farm in the Silvergrove district of Saskathewan 19 miles south of Shellbrook. This is where she resided until passing away. Betty passed away peacefully on January 21, 2016 after a short stay in hospital.
Betty is survived by her husband John; her son Robin (Joanne) Beam and their children- Amy, Joshua, Caleb, Joel, Josiah and Melodie; her daughter Cherey Dean and her children Christa and Amber (Justin) Johner and their children Casey, Tate and Tess; her daughter Rebecca Beam; her son Johnny (Lori) Beam and their children Joy, Anna, Benjamin and Thomas; her brother Roy (Doris) Stephen.
Betty was predeceased by her parents Emma and Otto Stephen; parents-in law Ben and Myrtle Beam; and one infant granddaughter Promise Rose Beam.
The funeral service for Betty will be held on January 30, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Shellbrook Pentecostal Church with Pastors Raymond Martel and Burton Ahenakew officiating. Lunch will follow in the church hall. Interment will be in the Kinistino Cemetery following lunch.
