It is with sadness that the family of Olga Hrenyk announce her passing on February 26, 2016 at her residence of Mont St. Joseph Home in Prince Albert, SK.  Mom was born July 8, 1928 in Hubin, Wolyn, Poland.  Her parents immigrated to Canada looking for a better life when she was two years old.  They homesteaded in the Foxford area.  She later met the love of her life, John Hrenyk, from the Meath Park area, and they were married on July 3, 1949.  Mom and dad had very little in their beginning years.  They had an opportunity for better farm land, so with their three young children they moved to the Davis area.  This land is still owned by two of their sons.

It was a hard life for mom with no modern day conveniences to help in the caring of her family. She worked long hours both inside and outside the home.  Once they got power and running water life was a bit easier.  She enjoyed her garden and flowers, and many an ice cream pail of strawberries and raspberries were picked from her fruit plants.  Mom loved her children and wanted them all to succeed and be happy.  As the children married and had children of their own it became a regular ritual to gather at Baba and Gido’s for Sunday dinner.  It was a wonderful time of fellowship, lots of good food and a meal which always ended with strawberries, vanilla ice cream and chocolate cake.  Mom is survived by 8 children; 19 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren: Joyce (Maurice) Berezowski: Chris (Jacqueline); Monica; David (Wilma): Ruth (Garrett) Elaschuk; [Jaden, Arianna, Brinley]; Daniel (Amber); Jeanette (David) Peterson; Jonathon; Don (Marilyn): Stephanie (Dwight) LeBlue [Alexandra, Samantha]; Dustin; Shirley (Clemence) Witt: Ryan (Celeste); Curtis; Aaron (Jamie) [Tait, Aubrey], Trisha (Tyson); Bruce (Sharon): Jason (Deanne) [Elyse]; Devon; Terry (Cindy): Jill (Derek); Kristin (Svend) [Lyndon, Svend]; Kelsey (Ryan) DePape; Peter (Loretta); Jordan (Jenel); James and Tim (Sherry): Darcy and Michael; her daughter-in-law Joanne Harper; her sister Ann Korneluk of North Batleford; her sister-in-law Jennie Shewchuk of Saskatoon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law;  Mom was predeceased by her husband of 55 years, John Hrenyk; an infant son Paul; her parents Harry and Pauline Shewchuk; her brother Walter Shewchuk; her brother-in-law Peter Korneluk; her parents-in-law Tom and Tillie Hrenyk; a niece; nephews and numerous sisters and brothers-in-law.  Mom had been a resident of Mont St. Joseph since December 2007.  We are grateful for the care and comfort that she was given.  Special thanks to Shannon Martens (nurse practitioner) who gained mom’s trust and helped her through many critical health issues.  Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 7, 2016 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Robert Berendt officiating.  Interment will follow at South Hill Cemetery.  In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, PO Box 12013, Stn BRM B, Toronto, ON M7Y 2L3.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
