Marilyn Ann Elchuk
July 10, 1958 – March 7, 2016
It is with deep sadness that the family of Marilyn Elchuk announce her passing on March 7, 2016, a dear wife, mother, and grandmother. Marilyn was born on July 10, 1958 to Bill and Mary Elchuk where she grew up on the Shipman family farm with five other siblings. Marilyn attended school locally and graduated from Nipawin in 1976. Following high school, Marilyn moved to Saskatoon where she earned her Bachelor of Education degree. Although teaching jobs were scarce, she was able to start her teaching career at Punnichy High School. It was during these early years that Marilyn became adept at teaching whatever she was asked to teach and to embrace adventures with her best friend, Joanne Sembaluk. Together, they enjoyed traveling across Canada, driving her favorite “jetta” and looking to have to fun with others and be involved in the community. Life settled down for Marilyn as she married her soul mate, Dave Bulgis, on December 31, 1986 where together they focused on building the family farm. The early years were tough as Dave often went away to work while Marilyn moved her teaching career to Choiceland, all the while dedicating her life to raising their 3 children: Pam, Lance, and Bryce. Marilyn worked tirelessly for her family and had an extremely deep love for all of them, touching each of their lives with her generosity, kindness, and hard work. She was thrilled to be a grandma and always had a new story about “Macky (Mackenzie)” and “Baby e (Easton)”. It is said that her family was everything to her and she will always be remembered for the care she showed them, the salsa making, endless hours working in her large garden and watching the birds in the crabapple tree such as “Pete the partridge”, whom she protected from the hunters in her family. In the spring of 2012, Marilyn received the dreaded diagnosis that she had cancer. However, in her spirit of perseverance she refused to be discouraged by it. With great courage, she battled the disease for 4 years, and in the end she simply wanted to be at home with her family who surrounded and supported her until her passing. Marilyn will be sadly missed by her loving husband of 29 years, Dave Bulgis; daughter Pamela (Dustin Dyke & their son Easton); son Lance (Brittany Thibault & their daughter Mackenzie) and youngest son, Bryce; along with her siblings: Paul (Christine), Joan (Donald Kenney), Gordon (Diane), Cindy (Dave Graham) and Roger and, finally, numerous uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at Wesley United Church, 65 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Tony Thompson officiating. A family internment of her ashes will take place at a later date. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 54 – 11th Street East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
