February 3, 1925 – March 30, 2016
Ethel was born in Birch Hills, SK to Alex and Ella Dunn. She received her education in Birch Hills, SK and her nurses training at the Holy Family Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. Ethel married Horace “Red” Coppendale and they were blessed with their daughter Wendy. Along with her nursing career they had several business endeavors including the Dairy Queen on 8th St in Saskatoon, a hardware store and Ethel helped her husband with both real estate and an electrical business. After retirement, Red and Ethel retired to summers at Little Bear Lake and spent their winters in Black Canyon City, Arizona. After the passing of both Red and Wendy, Ethel resided in Prince Albert, later choosing to move into North Haven Care Home in Smeaton, SK last October. There she was given excellent care by the staff whom she grew very fond of, and where she enjoyed the view, the food and the activities. Ethel spent the winter crocheting head bands that were donated to the womens shelter, Our House and the Head Start program. Following a brief illness Ethel passed away in the Victoria Union Hospital on March 30, 2016. Ethel was predeceased by her husband: Red; her daughter: Wendy; her parents, her sister: Betty; her brother: Arthur; and an infant brother: Jimmy. She will be deeply missed by her caring friend, Ken Wilkie, and all who knew her. At Ethel’s request there will be no funeral service. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
