On April 2 at the age of 91, Alexandre Robert Joseph Martyniuk passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital.  He endured many years of challenging health issues that he tackled with a quiet resilience.  Alex’s family was the light of his life.  He was so proud of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Appropriately, in his last few days he was surrounded by his family’s love while they reminisced over all their great memories and played his favorite music and card games.  Alex was born on February 16, 1925 in Storthoaks, Saskatchewan.  He was a husband for 63 years to Olga, a father to Gail Burgart, Dianne Viklund and Lee Atkinson.  There are 7 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and was considered grandpa to many others.  Alex had many skills and talents that he put to good use in his lifetime.  He was a heavy equipment operator, worked on the railroad, was the owner of Shin’s Barbershop for 25 years and had his steam engineer papers, which lead him to finish off his working career as custodian of the Federal Building.  He was a dedicated blood donor, donating over 100 units.  His involvement in the Cosmopolitan Club developed connections with many people; he was rewarded with many loyal friends.  There was never a challenge that he wouldn’t tackle, whether it be starting, adding to or completing numerous family projects.  He brought joy and laughter to many and those that knew him well would agree he lived up to his license plate SMRTLX.  Through the years we shared many fond memories with friends and family at the lake.  In laughter and in sorrow, in sunshine and in rain, we know you’re watching over us until we meet again.  Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 8, 2016 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28^th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Father Travis Myrheim.  Interment will be held at a later date.  Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca  Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
