Mrs. Doreen Hanson (McKenna), nee Olson, age 82, passed away peacefully, with her loving family by her side, on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Victoria Union Hospital following a brief illness. Mom was a resident of Green Hill Lodge and Suites prior to her passing. Mom was formerly from Weldon, SK. At a very early age she and her family moved to Prince Albert but she still considered Weldon her home, and was very happy to go back there as many times as she could. Mom married Tom McKenna Sr. and they resided in Prince Albert where they raised their 3 children. Mom and Dad enjoyed 49 years together until his passing in 2003. Mom was a very active volunteer in Prince Albert and she just recently received an award for 35 years for being a dedicated volunteer with the Prince Albert Parkland Health District. It was well known that Mom would lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Mom is survived by her 3 children and their families: her 2 sons: Tom McKenna Jr. and Sherie Dickie of rural Prince Albert; Rick McKenna of Ft. St. John, BC; her daughter Karen and Grant Tait of rural Prince Albert; her 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; her sister Maxine Olson; her sister-in-law Linda McKenna; her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary and Delmar Becker; her brother-in-law Kevin McKenna (Heather); her cousin Norma Hein; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by: Bertil Hanson in 2015; our dad, Tom McKenna Sr. in 2003; her parents Evelyn and Clarence Olson; her brother and sister-in law Albert and Marjorie Olson; her brother and sister-in-law Lloyd and Joan Olson; her niece Pam Olson; her father-in-law Joseph McKenna; her mother-in-law Mary McKenna; her brothers-in-law Michael and Joseph McKenna, Patrick and sister-in-law Ethel McKenna; her sister-in-law Marie McKenna and nephew Byron McKenna. Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, June 20 at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1795 15 Avenue East Prince Albert, SK, with Pastor Íris Kristjánsdóttir officiating. Interment will be held at White Star Cemetery. In lieu of other tributes, donations may be made to the charity of donor’s choice.
