Terrance Brian Bekolay passed away at his residence on Wednesday, August 17, 2016. He was born in Winnipeg, MB to Mary Soparlo (later Mary Emms). In 1947 he was adopted by Nick and Ruby Bekolay of Livelong, Saskatchewan. Terry was raised in Livelong, where he attended the Livelong School. His education and employment history were as follows: Terry graduated from Turtleford High School in 1964; he began by studying theology at Emmanuel and St Chad, but shifted focus to Sociology and graduated with a BA in 1967 from the U of S; he was a supervisor at a residential school in Inuvik in 1967-69 then led the Saskatchewan New Start Program before returning to the U of S. Terry graduated from law school in 1975 then worked at Legal Aid from 1976-79. He later moved into private practice for several years before he was appointed to serve as a judge at the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan in 1992. In 1971 he married Dianne Marie Fletcher. Terry met Jim Carlson, his partner in April 1994. Some of his interests were being involved with the boy scouts, fishing at Pinehouse, Greenwater and Weyakwin with Jim and his grandsons, as well as travelling many times to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and to their families’ countries of origin (Sweden and Romania) in the Summer of 2013. He and Jim also enjoyed walking the dogs. Terry is survived by Jim Carlson, his partner of 22 years; his children Anna (Kevin), Nick, and Elizabeth (Jordan); his grandsons Gabriel and Alastair Nicholson; his former wife, Dianne Bekolay; his siblings (spouses) – children (grandchildren): Joyce (David) Krivoblocki – Juleta and Garnet; Marie (Andre) Bekolay – Lance and Crystal; Martin Krip; Donna Witty – Angie (Kassandra) and Lee; Karen (Rex) Emms; Myra Emms – Scott Shang; Carol (Joe) Mosier – Joe and Ben; Robert (Joyce Duff) Emms – Rebecca & Jennie; Bradley Emms; his mother-in-law Dorothy Berg; his in-laws: Jim’s father Elmer Carlson, Jim’s brother Dale Carlson (Glenda) – Maia, Rhees, Leif and Neysa; and Jim’s sister Carol (Steve) Lane – Liam. He was predeceased by his adopted parents Nick and Ruby Bekolay; his birth mother Mary Soparlo; his siblings Sandra Krip and Roy Bekolay; his nephew Curtis Krip; and Jim’s mother Florence Carlson. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK with the Reverend Dr. Norbert Haukenfrers officiating. The family has requested that no flowers be sent. Instead, they suggest that donations be made in Terry’s memory to the SPCA, PO Box 1832, Prince Albert, SK S6V 6J9 or to St. Alban’s Cathedral, 1410 Bishop McLean Crescent, Prince Albert, SK S6V 4Z2.
