July 24, 1936 – August 16, 2016
It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we share the sudden passing of Otto Johan Opseth. Otto was born on the family farm, just outside of Hagen, SK. He spent his life there, farming the land, enjoying the birds, and all aspects of country living. Otto married Margot later in life and they enjoyed farm life, travelling, sporting events, particularly curling, church and community activities. He was dedicated to Saron church in many different capacities, especially being a part of the Hymnsters choir. Otto was a member of the Birch Hills Historical Society and enjoyed the time he spent there. Otto was a wonderful grandfather to his own grandchildren, as well as all of those within the community. He always made time to build forts, make grand adventures from hay bales or wood piles, and could not be beaten at playing marbles or in creating the biggest soap bubbles. He was at all of the dance recitals, the sporting events, the baptisms, and the graduations. The dates imply Otto was 80 years old, but his energy and humor proved time and time again that his youth was never ending. Otto was a hardworking, dedicated, loyal, generous man, not only to his family and friends, but to the entire community. From garden harvests to the most important gift of time, Otto will be dearly missed. Otto is survived by his wife: Margot; step-children: Teresa (Mike), Anita, and Keith (Jan); grandchildren: Chelsea (Matt), Brien, Jordin, Jessica (Chris), Kevin, and Melissa; great -granddaughter: Aevan; his sister: Arna (Ray) and their children: Bonnie (Brock), Diane, and Guy; his brother: Norman (Grace) and their children: Erin (Doug), and Derek (Lisa); and numerous great –nieces and nephews and all of those who felt like family. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Lake Park Baptist Church, Birch Hills, SK. In lieu of other tributes, donations in memory of Otto may be made to Saron Memorial Fund, Box 97, Hagen, SK, S0J 1B0. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Chapel & Crematorium.
