The family of Joan Elenor Thoresen is deeply saddened to announce her sudden passing on Friday, October 28th, 2016 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK at the age of 80 years. Joan leaves behind her loving husband of 58 years Ole Thoresen; her brothers Bob (Doris) Slawson, Earl (Doreen) Slawson and their families; her sister Shirley (Gordon) Simpson; her nephew Randy (Val) Simpson and “The Boys” Ashton, Riley, and Bryson; her niece Karen Simpson; her nephew Doug (Veronica) Hill and family; her sisters-in-law Lorraine Painchaud, Julie Dryka and their families; brothers-in-law Lorne (Anne) Thoresen, Conrad Thoresen and their families; her nephews and niece John (Jan) Junker, Allan (Jane) Junker, Benny (Samantha) Junker, Bruce (Lynn) Junker, David Painchaud, Sandra Painchaud, Gary Painchaud and their families; numerous nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by her parents Herbert and Ella Slawson, mother-in-law and father-in-law Adolf and Juliette Thoresen, sister-in-law Alma Junker, nieces Donna Wilson, and Janet Tolton. Joan was born on her grandparent’s farm near Renown, SK. She was the third child to Ella and Herb Slawson. Growing up in Prince Albert she attended Queen Mary School. She played softball for the school team and the Burn’s Shamrock City Team. Joan worked at the P.A. Laundry and later the Dairy Pool where she retired in 1977 after working for 25 years. Joan and Ole were married August 16th, 1958. They resided in Prince Albert for a few years before purchasing a farm in rural Prince Albert in 1974. Joan enjoyed her animals, even bottle feeding little pigs and calves and caring for chickens and turkeys. She loved family events such as birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, going to the lake and bringing her famous potato salad! Joan loved working in the garden and always had enough to share with her family and friends. She enjoyed bowling and going to watch her nephews play hockey and football, no matter what the weather was like. Joan and Ole shared many wonderful years together. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A special thank you to the staff on the 6th floor, the Dietary staff at the Victoria Hospital, the staff of the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic, and Dr. Dale Ardell and staff for all the care that was given to Joan. Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at Calvary United Church, 114- 25th Street East, Prince Albert, SK with Reverend Nora Vedress officiating. Memorial donations in Joan’s memory may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society 54- 11 St East, Prince Albert, SK S6V 0Z9.
