On November 15, 2016, Tryntje Roy (nee Jäger) left this life to join her Saviour. She died at home from cancer at the age of 82, supported by her family, friends, church community, and care workers. Tryntje was born August 2, 1934 in Siddeburen, Netherlands, the daughter of Harm Jäger and Eka Schmidt. Tryntje lived through the occupation of the Netherlands during WW2 and, following the war, she fell in love with a Canadian soldier – Lionel Roy. They married and moved to Prince Albert where they raised three children. Tryntje became one of the first Teacher Assistants trained to work in Saskatchewan. It was work she loved. After Lionel’s retirement from the police force, they moved to Christopher Lake – a place where they felt connected to nature. She continued to live at the lake for a few years after Lionel’s death, eventually moving back to Prince Albert. Tryntje loved a range of arts and crafts, and she spent much of her later years painting and supporting local arts events. Tryntje was strong in her religious faith and community. Her faith was one of compassion and service to others. For several years she was dedicated to the ‘Kid’s Klub’ run by the Covenant Church. This is a safe place where children can have fun and receive a nutritious meal. Tryntje was filled with love for her family – particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her memory will be cherished by those who survive her passing: her children and their spouses: Loretta (Roger) Spink, Raymond (Mary), and Rene (Heather Musgrove), and her sister, Theda Clements. She was pre-deceased by her husband, Lionel, her parents, and her siblings Rikste, Hendrik, “Tilly”, Pieter and Herman. The family wishes to thank friends, members of the Covenant Church, her physicians, especially Leo Lanoie and workers for Prince Albert Home Care who contributed to her physical and spiritual care. A special thank you to Gordon Jensen, the family RN, who dedicated himself to caring for his grandmother in her final days. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 21, 2016 at the Gateway Covenant Church, 1500 – 15th Street East, Prince Albert, SK. If desired, donations may be made in Tryntje’s memory to the Gateway Covenant Church Kid’s Klub or a charity of your choice. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care of River Park Funeral Home, 306-764-2727, Don Moriarty, Funeral Director.
