Hélène Mélanie Poulin (née Georget), age 93 of Prince Albert, SK passed away peacefully on the evening of December 23rd with her family by her side singing and listening to Old Time music.
Mom was born on October 29th, 1923 in Wakaw, SK at Anna Turnbull Hospital located at Scott’s Point on the west point of Wakaw Lake. She lived and worked in Domremy for many years until she met Dad at a dance. They were married on May 5th, 1955, and began their life on the farm 8 km south of Prince Albert. Mom and Dad both had a love of music, and they played many Old Time waltzes and polkas in the living room of their home with many captive audiences. Mom shared her talent of playing the piano and singing with her daughter Gisèle. She was very proud to give up her piano bench for Gisèle to play with Dad. Mom attended as many of her kids’ sporting events as possible, cheering at hockey, soccer and ball games. She was very proud that Denis was a French Immersion teacher, Dan was a Recreation Director, and Gisèle an Educational Assistant. Mom loved having company and always had dainties in her freezer, because nobody could leave the farm without having something to eat and playing a game of Kaiser or “Mitaines”. Mom spent her final years at the Kopera Care Home in Prince Albert.
She is survived by her 2 sons Denis (Ruth) Poulin of Prince Albert, Daniel (Camy) Poulin of Nipawin, and daughter Gisèle (Chuck) Layton of Saskatoon, 13 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law Germaine Georget and Rita Georget, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was predeceased by her husband Wilfrid, two sons Claude and Norbert, her parents Julien Sr. and Eugénie Georget, as well as her sisters and brothers Yvonne (George) Tournier, Alphonsine (Marcel) Billo, Clémentine (Ernest) Casavant, Germaine (Raymond) Neefs, Julien Jr., Eugène and Arsène Georget.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday December 30th, 2:00 PM, at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church – 260 25th Street East with celebrant Father Roque Concepcion. Interment will follow at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens.
We want to thank Angie Kopera and her staff at Kopera Care Homes, Dr. Van Heerden and staff at P.A. Cooperative Health Centre, the nurses and doctors of Victoria Hospital, but especially the staff on the Palliative Care floor of the hospital for the care and compassion they showed towards our mom in her final days.
