July 4, 1950 – February 5, 2017
Brenda Arlene Gunville (nee McKinnon) passed away at the age of 66 on Sunday, February 5, 2017 at Victoria Hospital surrounded by her family after a courageous 18month battle with cancer. Brenda was born on July 4, 1950 in St. Boniface, Manitoba to Edith and Waverly McKinnon. She grew up in Virden until moving to Prince Albert where she met Chick, her soulmate of almost 50 years. They were married in 1969 and started their family in Prince Albert with Ron being born in February, 1970 and Trevor in July of 1972. She stayed at home until the boys were in school and then worked at Harman Farms, babysat in her home and then worked at A&W for 25 years where she met some of her lifelong friends. Brenda’s favorite place was at their cabin at Cochin where you could always find her on the front deck having coffee, reading, waving to everyone that went by and welcoming them in for a drink and visit. Brenda enjoyed watching her boys compete in various sports. We’ve heard many stories of the hockey parents and their road trip shenanigans over the years. She raised not only Ron and Trevor but had an impact on so many more of the hockey and slo-pitch players who she looked after and “mothered” along the way. She was her grandchildren’s number one fan, always ready to support them whether it be at the rink watching Keanan, Reed or Kalen play hockey, sitting in the bleachers watching ball for hours on end at the ball diamonds, in an auditorium watching Taryn dance or at the gym watching Jada play volleyball. One of our best memories was our family trip to Disneyland in 2006. She and Chick enjoyed many road trips together, taking them coast to coast from B.C. to Nova Scotia, with the most recent trip to Estevan to watch Reed and visit with her family. She will be greatly missed by her husband Hubert Gunville of 47 years; their sons and their families: Ron (Sherry)& their children Reed and Taryn; Trevor (Celena) & their children Keanan, Jada and Kalen; her sister Beverly Boire (Gene); her brother Kenneth McKinnon (Tanya); sisters-in-law Heather McKinnon, Lorry (Ken) Scriven, Lenny (Lynn) Gunville, Lynn (Bob) Locke and Liala Gunville (Lionel); as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. We will all carry memories of her “without a doubt.” She was predeceased by her parents Waverly and Edith McKinnon; her mother and father-in-law June and Hubert Gunville, and her brother Barry McKinnon. At Brenda’s request, there will be a Graveside Service at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 8, 2017 at South Hill Cemetery with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. A memorial luncheon to follow at 2:30 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations can be made to the Chemotherapy Unit, Victoria Hospital Foundation, 1200 – 24th Street West, Prince Albert, SK S6V 5T4. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Gray’s Funeral Chapel, (306-922-4729).
