1944-2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Joan Edith Andersen announce her passing on Tuesday, September 19th at the age of 73.
Joan better known as Joanie was born June 14, 1944 to Harold and Victoria Lovberg in Canwood where she was raised and attended school. She was the fifth child of six with 2 brothers and 3 sisters. She married her true love, Kai Andersen on December 17, 1961. They built their home and farm in Blue Heron, SK and raised their four children Gay, Roger, Shelley and Sherry. Most of their time was devoted to grain farming, cattle, pigs, sheep, chickens, geese, dogs, and cats. Joan took up selling Avon when her children were older and pursued that for 17 years. She loved going door to door visiting with clients and delivering their orders. She took great pride in the Mrs. Albee she would receive the years that her sales reached a certain point. She also worked at Young’s Garage for 12 years where she was known to keep everyone in line when they got out of hand. In 2005 Dad and Mum semi-retired and moved into Canwood selling their place to their daughter Shelley. They bought a house across the street from Joanie’s childhood home. Joan was a long-time member of the Royal Purple and occupied several executive positions while being a member. She served on many local boards and most recently was actively involved with the Seniors Club. She enjoyed camping, fishing, baking, crocheting, sewing, gardening, curling, bowling, visiting, playing cards, bingo and the occasional trip to the casino where she tended to be luckier than Kai. She always looked forward to the many trips out to BC to visit with family. Joan loved Christmas and her family will always remember the many Christmas’s she hosted having more than enough to eat and making sure Santa would pay a surprise visit. She adored her grandchildren and spending time with them. Her eyes would light up when they entered the room right up until the very end even when she was so sick.
Mum was a kind and generous person with a heart of gold. She had a wonderful gift to gab and a great sense of humour. Her smiling face will be missed but never forgotten. She has left us with many great memories to treasure.
She passed away after a very short courageous battle with cancer at Parkland Integrated Health Centre with family by her side.
