Ranjith “Dook” DOOKHUN
January 11, 1934 – September 29, 2017
Ranjith Suparsad Dookhun “Dook” passed away at the Victoria Hospital on Friday, September 29, 2017. He was born on January 11, 1934 in Natal South Africa and immigrated to Canada in 1968. Dook graduated from Woodlands High School in Pietermaritzburg, Natal in 1952. He qualified as a teacher from Springfield Teacher Training College and received his B.A. from University of Natal, South Africa and taught school in Natal for 12 years. Dook obtained his B.Ed. from the University of Saskatchewan and taught in Canwood, Meath Park and Wesmor schools before retiring in 1989. He was always very appreciative of his fellow teachers and the kindness they showed him. Dook had wonderful memories of the people of Canwood who made him very welcome and he also had very fond memories of his many students. He owed Canada a debt of gratitude for giving him “true freedom”. Dook will be dearly missed by his wife Kay of 58 years; his son Dhipak; his beloved granddaughter Akshya; his brother and three sisters in South Africa and his favorite nephew Dr. lshaan (Rekha) and their children Vayuna and Shivakar. A Private Family Service was held. Those wishing to place a memorial donation in Dook’s memory may do so to the charity of their choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at www.grays.ca.
