Kenneth Murray Akre
December 28, 1938 – October 25, 2017
It is with great sadness that the family of Kenneth Murray Akre announce his passing on Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at the Victoria Hospital in Prince Albert, SK. Ken was born in Melfort, SK on December 28, 1938 to Alvin Leroy and Evelyn Mae Akre (nee Muss). He married Elsie Anne Akre (nee Button) on October 11, 1958 in Prince Albert, SK. Ken was a Journeyman Carpenter, and for many years he worked for the Government of Saskatchewan as an apprenticeship consultant. His superior debating and negotiating skills served him well in his career as well as in his personal life. Ken was a member of the Vintage Power Machines. He taught English to school children in Mazatlan, Mexico. He will be missed by all. Ken is survived by his loving wife Elsie; his children Donald (Juanita) Akre, Wendy (Kevin) Morrow, Marie Teichroeb (Don Dorion) and Rick (Lorrie) Akre; his grandchildren Michael (Michelle) Morrow, Brittany (Nathan) Nicolas, Jeff (Elise) Morrow, Katherine (Norm) Wiens, Shelby (Jesse) Moffat, Alex (Kalli) Teichroeb, Mac Morrow, Branden Akre, Jacy Akre (Zack Ledoux), Hannah Akre and Dallas Akre; his great-grandchildren Nash Morrow, Tommy Moffat, Danny Moffat, Quinn Morrow, Theo Nicolas, Emery Wiens, Ezra Teichroeb, Max Morrow, Brody Moffat and Grace Nicolas; his siblings Allan (Madge) Akre, Dona (Gary) Coroy, Carol (Jack) Moldenhauer, Jerry (Lynda) Akre, Bonnie (Dave) Hutmacher, Debbie (Bill) Simpson and David (Lil) Akre; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and in-laws; many special friends in Canada, USA and Mexico; and his pet Gracie. He was predeceased by his parents Alvin Akre in 1970 and Evelyn Akre in 2009. The family would like to extend a thank you to Palliative Home Care for the excellent care they gave to Ken. Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 2, 2017 at Gray’s Funeral Chapel, 575 – 28th Street West, Prince Albert, SK with Pastor Dennis Serfas officiating. Interment will be held at Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of other tributes, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society and/or a small winter donation of mittens and toques to My Little Pantry as Ken was a founding builder of them. (A donation box will be available at Gray’s Funeral Chapel before, after and during the service.)
