1929-2018
Peter Gaius Nolan was born October 31, 1929 in Regina, SK to John and Winnifred Nolan, the youngest of five children. He was a sickly infant and at birth his mother consecrated him to the Lord. Peter lived his life with that in mind. He attended school in Regina and post-secondary at Bethel Bible Institute in Saskatoon. He graduated in 1951 and began his ministry in Deer Ridge. He had met Olive Christianson in Bible College and in 1953 they were married. Together they ministered in Carrot River, Naicam, Shell Lake, Cut Knife, Leask with Shell Lake as an outpost, and Yorkton. He left pastoral ministry for a time and was Director of Youth and Christian Education and then Director of Living Waters Camp with the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada Saskatchewan District in Saskatoon. Dean of Residence of Central Pentecostal College, Saskatoon was next where he was facility manager and also poured into the lives of students preparing for ministry. In 1988 Peter returned to full-time pastoral ministry in Canwood. After Olive’s death in 1993 Peter pastored alone in Canwood and then at North Battleford for a time. In 1996 he retired from pastoral ministry and was a partner in managing the Canwood Regional Park and Golf Course. Here Beulah Grimm came into his life. They were married that November and he moved to Parkside. Peter continued to perform weddings, funerals, and baby dedications and in 2001 received honor from the PAOC for fifty years of ministry with distinction in the province of Saskatchewan. Although he served in one denomination, labels were not important to Peter. Having a vital relationship with Jesus and sharing that truth was his priority in life. Music was always a large part of Peter’s life: singing solos, duets with Olive, in quartets and in 2003 joined the Parkland Four which produced two CD’s. Peter’s other passion was cars. A favorite pastime all his life was going through car lots. Living his last two and a half years at Parkland Terrace in Shellbrook with a view of the parking lot was a good fit for him. He always loved travelling, especially road trips across Canada and the US. Camping, fishing, golfing, bowling, carpentry, gardening, reading, doing puzzles, playing games, and visiting filled the rest of his down time. He was a man who could not be still for long and was most happy when he was helping someone: as a handyman, with farmers in seeding and harvest, working on a car, or providing rides. He loved people, especially children, and was well-loved by all who knew him. Peter Nolan died on June 2, 2018 in Parkland Terrace, Shellbrook. He is survived by his wife Beulah; his children Randy (Gwen), Colleen (Michael), Lorene (Mark); grandchildren Jennifer (Graeme), Jonathan (Carrie), Kirk, Quinn, Ashlee (Leonard), Megan (Matt); great-grandchildren Eden, Maddox, and Viola; his sister Eileen; his step-children Sharlene (Richard), Sheldon (Debbie), Sharon (Darryl); grandchildren Tracy (Martin), Rachelle, Celina (Rene), Jerrid (Cristina), Cassie (Dustin), Janelle (Tyson), Taneisha, Anders, Hannah, Abigail; great-grandchildren Lee, Dylan, Alex, Erin, Sara, Sadie, Charlie, Henry, Jayda, Carly, Nicole, Brooklyn, Grey, and Foster; nieces and nephews; and many friends.
