Raiders acquire Horon in late-night deal

Hours after the Raiders wrapped up their week on the ice with a 3-2 loss against Red Deer at the Art Hauser Centre, general manager Curtis Hunt had one piece of business to take care of.

The club announced a trade with the Seattle Thunderbirds on Saturday night, bringing 2001-born forward Michael Horon to town in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick.

“Michael has a lot of skill and is a speedy and crafty player,” Hunt said in a statement. “Bringing him in provides us some depth in scoring. We’re excited to add Michael to our group.”

Horon has been enjoying a successful rookie year with the Thunderbirds with eight points through 13 games played.

Last season, the Lethbridge native completed his midget career with his hometown AAA Hurricanes by leading the Alberta Midget Hockey League in goals with 30 and points with 61. Horon also appeared in one game with the Thunderbirds and one with the Drumheller Dragons of the Alberta Junior Hockey League as an affiliate.

The 5’10”, 177 pound left wing was originally drafted by the Everett Silvertips in the 2016 WHL Bantam Draft.
