Saskatoon Goldfins 43rd Annual Invitational and Masters Swim Meet
Many Prince Albert swimmers successfully kicked off the competitive season by setting personal best times at a meet in Saskatoon on the weekend.
Twenty-three swimmers from the Prince Albert Sharks Swim Club traveled to Saskatoon to participate in the Goldfins open swim meet Nov.1-3 at the Shaw Centre. The Sharks team included age-group swimmers, masters swimmers and para-swimmers.
Masters swimmers Sharon Lyons and Karin Ferris participated in this swim meet. Lyons broke the provincial record in the 25-metre butterfly for the 50-54 age category, with a time of 17.97 seconds. The old record was 18.29 seconds and had been in place for more than 20 years! Lyons also came first in the 50-metre backstroke and 50-metre butterfly. Karin Ferris – swimming in the 45-49 age category — came first in the 50-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke 100-metre backstroke.
In the future stars swim meet, Sharks swimmers came first, third and sixth in 25-metre freestyle event. Sharks swimmers also placed third in the 50-metre freestyle and seventh and ninth in the 50-metre backstroke. As well, a Sharks swimmer came second in the 25-metre breaststroke. Natasha Coertze broke the club record for 12 year old girls in the 25-metre freestyle and in the 25-metre backstroke.
