P.A. police getting in on annual fundraiser

November is now underway and with that comes the beginning of a popular fundraiser.

Movember encourages men to grow mustaches and collect donations to support men’s health causes, like prostate cancer.

One of the organizations getting in on this year’s campaign is the Prince Albert Police Service. Sgt. Josh Peterson said the campaign is one that is easy to get behind.

“We’ve had some members actually be personally affected by prostate cancer, plus cancer generally has affected us all,” he said.

P.A. Police have taken part in Movember fundraising for around nine years according to Peterson. Generally, they have around 45 and 60 people take part. The fundraising campaign this year is an in-house effort. This year Peterson said they are hoping to raise around $2,000 to support the Movember foundation.

“The awareness and how it brings awareness to prostate cancer is one reason and there is a bit of a comradery as far as the mustache growing goes,” he said.

Peterson said the campaign is a fun one, as it leads to a diverse showing of facial hair, with some more plentiful than others.

“If anybody happens to see a police officer with a weak duster, just have patience with us; we’re doing our best to get it thick,” he said.
