From pavement to plate: Should Saskatchewan residents be allowed to eat roadkill?
Saskatchewan residents hoping to turn roadside deer into dinner, will have to pump the brakes.
The state of California passed legislation on Oct. 13, would allow the set-up of programs to grant golden state residents the ability to harvest animals that died as a result of accidental vehicle collisions.
A Prince Albert Conservation Officer is not sure this is a good idea.
“We don’t recommend it (roadkill) for human consumption. Depending on the time of the time of year, the carcass may have already started to decompose, and it might not be fit for human consumption,” Carrie McKay told paNOW. “We don’t know either if that animal was sick at the time of death.”
