Raiders fall to Silvertips in overtime thriller
A dramatic late-game goal from Ozzy Wiesblatt wasn’t enough to lead the Prince Albert Raiders to victory, as the team fell 2-1 in overtime to the Everett Silvertips on Saturday night.
Down 1-0 late in the third period with goaltender Boston Bilous on the bench for the extra attacker, the Raiders’ 31st shot directed at ‘Tips goaltender Dustin Wolf was the first to find the back of the net. A beautiful cross-ice feed from Aliaksei Protas found the stick of Ozzy Wiesblatt who one-timed it home to tie the game at 1-1 and send a game that looked like a loss to overtime.
In overtime, the Raiders ran out of late-game magic as Everett forward Michal Gut found the back of the net 1:38 into the extra frame to give the Silvertips the victory.
Prince Albert seemed to get stronger as the game went along, and Everett was up to the challenge from start to finish as the rested but potentially rusty took on a Silvertips team playing their third game in four nights.
