There’s a ton of sports going on this week in Prince Albert. Here are some things local sports fans should be aware of.

Thursday

The Carlton Crusaders and St. Mary Marauders senior football teams are both playing at Max Clunie Field, but not at the same time. Instead, it’s a rare high school football doubleheader. The Marauders will go first at 4 p.m., playing Mount Royal. Then the Crusaders will play Walter Murray at 6:30 p.m. Both P.A. teams are searching for their first victory of the season.

The Prince Albert Skating Club is holding their own take on the CBC figure skating show Battle of the Blades at 4:45 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre. It will feature the club’s figure skaters and some minor hockey players taking part.

Friday

The Prince Albert Titans will open up their Prairie Junior Hockey League season, taking on the Saskatoon Quakers. Puck drop will be at the Kinsmen Arena at 7:30 p.m.

The Prince Albert Raiders and their newly acquired forward in Brayden Watts will travel to Regina to take on the Pats (1-1). The Raiders had a 5-1 record against the Pats last season and were 3-0 against the Pats in the Brandt Centre. The Raiders also won both pre-season meetings between the two clubs this year.

Provincial golf on Friday and Saturday at the TS&M Woodlawn Golf Club in Estevan. Carlton’s T.J. Baker, Cole Jenkins and Kaleb Willoughby finished top three in the male districts. Dylan Wicks from Birch Hills is also going to provincials. On the female side, Hunter Tremblay, Marissa Skavlebo and McKenna Kyliuk from W.P. Sandin High School qualified for the provincials, as well as St. Mary’s Ava Degagne.

The Prince Albert Mintos will play the Saskatoon Blazers on Friday night as part of the Warman Showcase. The Mintos enter the game as the first Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League team to get to 2-0.

Saturday

The Raiders return home for a history day. They’ll face the Winnipeg ICE (1-1) for the first time since the frozen franchise relocated from Cranbook. The puck will drop between both teams at 7 p.m. at centre ice at the Art Hauser Centre.

The Mintos will play the Notre Dame Argos to wrap up their Warman Showcase.

Carlton will be hosting their soccer tournament on Friday and Saturday. The finals go on at 3 p.m. on Saturday.

Sunday

The Prince Albert Northern Bears will officially start their 2019-20 Saskatchewan Female Midget AAA Hockey League season by taking on the Saskatoon Stars at 1:30 p.m. at the Art Hauser Centre.

It will be a big season for the Bears, who will host the 2020 Esso Cup national championship April 19-25 at the Hauser as well.

The Titans will play their second game of the season, playing the Saskatoon Royals at 2:30 p.m. at the Kinsmen Arena.

The pee wee River Riders will play the Cougars at 1 p.m. on Max Clunie Field.
