Community group looks to reach more people

A longtime community organization is undergoing a change.

Big Brothers, Big Sisters Prince Albert has debuted their new logo, which is part of a nation wide rebrand for the organization across Canada. Natasha Thomson, development coordinator for the group in P.A. said the old logo had been in use for quite a while and change was needed.

“We’re really excited about the bright colours and the new imagery and also it aligns a little more with Big Brother Big Sisters of America, they recently rebranded as well,” she said.

Speaking locally, Thomson said she hopes the new logo will help when it comes to bringing in more people to volunteer with the organization. She explained the new imaging they are using symbolizes “the power of three” in bringing together the organization, the parent and the volunteer to help the youth.

“Our goal is to reach more volunteers to match more children with mentors, there’s always an ongoing need,” she said.

Right now Thomson said they have 18 kids on their list waiting for mentors. She said they are looking for both men and women volunteers.

“We definitely need more men to step up to match with the boys who are waiting,” she said.

Thomson said providing mentoring services to kids is beneficial in a number of ways. Specifically, when it comes to helping them build healthy relationship skills, to helping them feel empowered and helping with their all-around mental wellness.

Those who are looking to support Big Brothers, Big Sisters P.A. have the chance to do so this weekend as they will be putting on a fundraising barbecue at the Brick on Saturday.
