Crazy train continues to roll through pre-season

Sep 13, 2019 | 9:50 PM

Yes it’s pre-season and yes the goals don’t really count towards anything, but Ozzy Wiesblatt has scored a ton of them already.

The Prince Albert Raiders sophomore already has five goals this exhibition season, putting him tied in the WHL lead.

Wiesblatt scored both Raiders’ goals in regulation as they went on to beat the Regina Pats (2-2-0-2) in a shootout 3-2 on Friday at the Brandt Centre. The Raiders improved to a 3-1 record in exhibition play.

As a 16-year-old rookie last year, Wiesblatt had 15 goals in 64 games with the Raiders, and five playoff goals in 23 games.

Raiders goaltender Carter Serhyenko, who the Raiders signed earlier in the day of Friday, entered the third period after Boston Bilous stopped 12 of 13 shots in the opening two periods.

Serhyenko stopped 14 of 15 shots he faced in both the third period and the overtime frame. He also turned aside all three shootout attempts he faced.

Ilya Usau scored the lone goal in the three-round shootout. Usau also got an assist on Wiesblatt’s second goal of the game, giving him five points in as many pre-season games.

No ex-Raider Bader

Newly named Pat Bryce Bader did not get to suit up against his former team. Bader was sent to the Regina Pats by the Raiders for a conditional eighth round pick on Thursday.

Rematch

Both teams will close out their preseasons on Saturday at the Art Hauser Centre.
