Stefan Lotz (age 12) and Morgan Burns (age 13), both from the Prince Albert Skating Club have been selected for the Provincial Development Team for figure skating for the second year in a row.

Skaters from all over the province apply for the team and this year 17 were successful. Stefan will compete in Mens Juvenile U14 and Morgan will compete in Ladies Juvenile U14.

The Development Team kicks off in March and amps the team members up to have a successful competitive season. The team gives the skaters opportunity to attend training camps specific to their level of competition as well as monitoring sessions by evaluators.

During spring and summer, where there is limited ice time in Prince Albert, they travel to Saskatoon daily and train at the ACT Figure Skating Arena with their coach, Carla Matheson also of Prince Albert.

The team members are required to compete in the Saskatchewan Series. Their first competition, was in Leduc, Alberta, where they competed against skaters from Western Canada, there after, it was off to a training camp in Regina. They will continue their training in Prince Albert, at the Art Hauser Centre, as the summer and fall star skate camps, hosted by the Prince Albert Skating Club, kicks off this week.

Upcoming competitions are the Saskatchewan Open (Regina) in October, Sectionals (North Battleford) in November, Regionals (Carrot River) in January and Winter Classic in March.

Stefan and Morgan train 6 days a week in Prince Albert during regular season (October to March) both before and after school.

Stefan and Morgan have also been doing some recreational pairs skating and performed in exhibition skates.

Stefan and Morgan assist in coaching the PreCanskate and Canskate programs with the PASC. This is a great way for them to mentor and inspire the younger skaters to enjoy the sport of figure skating.

Prince Albert Skating Club offers learn to skate, power skating and figure skating programs. You can register online for the upcoming season which beings October 7th.
