Crusaders’ slow start hurts in them in season opener

It was a steep, uphill battle for the Carlton Crusaders on Thursday night from kick off against the St. Joseph Guardians.

The Crusaders fumbled while returning the opening kickoff, and surrendered possession on their own 15 yard line. The Guardians needed just four rushing plays to punch it into the end zone, giving them a 7-0 advantage before the anthem singer had enough time to leave the announcing booth and find her seat in the bleachers.

The Guardians went on to have a 41-6 advantage by the half, and went on to win 55-15 at Max Clunie Field.

Guardians tailback Kayden Miller had three touchdowns in the first half, getting the opening points from the four yard line, scoring on an 82-yard scamper and returning a punt for a major score from 60 yards out.

Crusaders quarterback Ryan Adamko was in on all the scoring plays for the Crusaders. He smashed his way over the line to make it 14-6 in the first quarter from 10 yards out. Then in the dying seconds of the game, he found Justin Adamko for an 85-yard score.

The Crusaders will be on the road to tangle against North Battleford on Sept. 13 for their next game. They’ll return home on Sept. 26 to face Walter Murray.
