The Prince Albert Raiders are recognizing last season’s championship team in a big colourful way.

At the front entrance of the Art Hauser Centre on the glass is a picture of the team with the Ed Chynoweth Cup, taken right after the team clinched the WHL championship in overtime.

Michael Scissons, business manager with the Raiders said the team winning the league title is something that deserves to be remembered.

“We were lucky enough to win it on home ice and in a moment, which [is] probably going to go down as maybe the biggest sports moment in Prince Albert history, like taking place here, so that trophy is something we’re incredibly proud of,” he said.

The picture was installed by Markit Signs on Thursday with the process taking around four hours. Scissons said the idea to install the picture came to mind while the team was in Halifax at the Memorial Cup.

“It’s an older rink but they’ve really got some great features to it, so when you walk [into] the rink, one of their windows going in is a gigantic picture of their 2013 Memorial Cup win,” he said.

Along with the decal out front, the team has installed a second one on the wall of the team’s dressing room. Scissons said they plan to have the picture out front up for the entire season. He added the organization will make sure to have some sort of permanent enshrinement of the team clinching the championship on home ice. He said it doesn’t work to leave the window picture up indefinitely.

Scissons said the decal is important for everyone to see as the moment was a big one for everyone involved. He added when it comes to the players, who will be returning next week for the start of training camp, the image sends a positive message.

“It just kind of shows them what’s possible and we may be one of the smaller markets, but we won the biggest trophy and at the end of the day it’s something we’re incredibly proud of,” he said.
