Solving tough soil problems with cover crops
Producers face many challenges during the growing season. Weed pressure, fertility, drought, and poor water infiltration can impact production.
A series of workshops in Saskatchewan this week will provide practical advice on how cover crops and healthy soils can address some of today’s toughest farming challenges.
Cover cropping expert Kevin Elmy will lead three producer workshops this week sponsored by Sask Soil. The Solving Tough Soil Problems workshops are being held tomorrow in Assiniboia, Wednesday in Kindersley and Thursday in Melfort.
Elmy is originally from Saltcoats near Yorkton, Sask. and is now a consultant who conducts workshops from Australia to Ukraine. He said at the surface cover crops sound like an easy concept, but it is quite complex.
