Findlay resigns as B.C. Conservative leader after weeks of caucus upheaval

Kerry-Lynne Findlay has resigned as the leader of British Columbia’s Conservatives, effective immediately, after weeks of upheaval in the official Opposition caucus.

She says in a statement posted to social media that it was not an easy decision, but she believes it is “the right one for our movement and our province.”

Her resignation comes days before she was set to face voters as the Conservative candidate in a byelection in Abbotsford-Mission, and just hours after legislator Linda Hepner announced she was leaving the caucus, bringing to 13 the number of sitting MLAs who have exited since August.

Findlay’s statement says she would not allow an “internal battle” over her leadership to become a distraction from the work B.C. residents need from a strong opposition challenging the governing New Democrats.
